Peeter Vähi omandas
heliloojadiplomi Eesti Muusikaakadeemias 1980 prof Tambergi juhendamisel.
Paralleelselt heliloominguga on ta töötanud Eesti Raadios muusikasaadete
autorina, "Eesti Kontserdis" produtsendina, festivalide ("Orient", Arvo
Pärdi Festival, Eesti Kultuurifestival Saksamaal, Eesti Muusika Festival
Jaapanis, Eesti muusikaprogramm maailmanäitusel EXPO 2000, “Klaaspärlimäng”)
kunstilise juhina, samuti Estonian Record Productions’i kunstilise juhina.
Vähi on loonud muusikat sümfooniaorkestrile, koorile, kammeransamblitele,
elektroonilistele ja etnilistele instrumentidele. Tema muusikas ühinevad
arhailine ja kaasaegne, akustiline ja elektrooniline, orientaalne ja oksidentaalne,
akadeemiline ja alternatiivne. Interpreedina on Vähi koos musitseerinud
muusikutega Hiinast, Tiibetist, Indiast, Kampucheast, Vietnamist, Türgist,
Siberist. Osalenud paljudel rahvusvahelistel muusikafestivalidel. Jättes
loetelust välja Vähi noorusaja tegevuse rokkmuusikuna, siis alates
1992 on tema süvamuusikat ilmunud 40 heliplaadil (Antes Edition Classics,
Erdenklang, CCn’C, Eres, Euromedia, Universal, Forte, Warner Classics,
Finlandia Records, EMI), sealhulgas 8 autori-CDd.
Peeter Vähi was born
in Estonia, 1955. In his youth he learned to play the accordion, the piano
and the double bass. During his studies, the young composer took interest
in baroque music, also in oriental and electronic music. In 1980 he graduated
from Estonian Academy of Music as composer. Having completed his studies,
Peeter Vähi has worked as an author of musical programs for the Estonian
Radio, a producer at the State Concert Institute of Estonia and Estonia
Record Productions, artistic director of several international festivals
(Orient, Arvo Pärt Festival, Glasperlenspiel, Estonian culture festivals
in Germany and Japan). He is a member of Estonian Academic Oriental Society,
also a member of the boards of Estonian Composers’ Union and Mahayana Institute,
also the president of Estonian Buddhist Society.
His most important compositions are The White Concerto for guitar and symphony
orchestra, To His Highness Salvadore D for flute, violin and guitar, Pastoral
Of Computerized World (commissioned for the 50th anniversary of UNESCO)
for flute, cello and piano, 2000 Years After The Birth Of Christ for early
music consort and symphony orchestra, Supreme Silence for female voice,
male choir and handbell ensemble, Chant Of The Celestial Lake for flute
and chamber orchestra.
As a keyboarder Peeter Vähi has performed with different
musicians. For more than 6 years, he directed the rock group Vitamin. From
time to time, he has performed together with several chamber ensembles,
orchestras and choirs (including the 30,000-members choir at the Estonian
National Song Festivals). In the recent years Peeter Vähi has been
in close collaboration with musicians from India, China, Siberia and other
parts of Asia.
Vähi’s scores have been published by Edition 49,
Antes Edition Classics, Eres Edition, Sony Music and CultureWare Music
Publ. Since 1992 his music has been released on 40 CDs by Antes Edition
Classics, Erdenklang, CCn’C, EMI, Warner Classics, Universal, Finlandia
Records, Euromedia, Melodiya. On several occasions, Vähi’s works have
been awarded different music prizes.
Peeter Vähi ist 1955 in Estland geboren. In seiner Jugend hat er Akkordeon gespielt, 1980 absolvierte er die Estnische Musikakademie als Komponist. Schon während des Studiums interessierte sich der junge Komponist für ethnische und elektronische Musik. Vähis Tätigkeitsbereich ist ziemlich breit gewesen. Er hat als Verfasser von Volksmusiksendugen im Estnischen Rundfunk, als Schallplattenproduzent in verschiedenen Unternehmen, als Leiter des Internationalen Musikfestivals Orient und Glasperlenspiel gearbeitet. Als Tasteninstrumentalist hat er mehr als 10 Jahre in den Rock-Ensemble Vitamin, ab und zu ist er zusammen mit verschiedenen Chören und Orchestern aufgetreten, unter anderem auch mit 30,000 (!) Sänger zählendem Sängerfestchor. In der letzten Zeit arbeitet er viel mit Volksmusikern aus Estland, aber auch aus Indien, Sibirien und anderen asiatischen Ländern. Die bedeutendsten Werke: The White Concerto für Gitarre und Orchester, Chant Of CelestialLake für Flöte ond Kammerorchester, To His Highness Salvador D für Flöte, Geige und Gitarre, sowie Werke aus dem Bereich New Age und Weltmusik – Der Weg ins Hertz von Asien, Stimmen des silbernen Mondes, Supreme Silence. Peeter Vähis Werke sind von den Schallplattenfirmen Antes Classics Edition, Erdenklang, CCn’C, Melodia, Eres, Warner Classics, Finlandia Records, Universal, EMI und Euromedia aufgenommen worden.
Peeter Vähi (1955) étudia la composition auprès d'Eino Tamberg. En guise de réponse à la complexité de l'art moderne, il puise dans la musique baroque, le rock, le new age et la musique orientale notamment la musique indienne qu'il a longtemps étudiée les impulsions créatrices pour ses compositions. Ses oeuvres sont disponibles sur CDs publiés par Melodiya, Warner Classics, Erdenklang, Finlandia Records, Antes Edition Classics, EMI, CCn’C, Euromedia, Universal et d'autres éditeurs. Il est également l'auteur de nombreux articles publiés des revues musicales ou rédigés pour des émissions de radio et s'est distingué comme brillant organisateur des Eesti Kontsert.
