Kuldar Sink (1942-1995) was a spontaneous composer who could write a lot at one sitting and then be silent for years. The lasting characteristics of his works primarily chamber music are the subtle and imaginative treatment of timbres. In 1960, he was the most outstanding modernist of Estonian music with the exception of Arvo Pärt. He became interested in Central Asian music in the seventies. The contemporary essence of Oriental music influenced his further work, reaching its zenith with the "timeless" meditating Song Cycle "Birth and Death Songs" (Text by F. Garcia Lorca; 1985-87). Sink primarily wrote choir works with liturgical texts in the nineties. |

Kuldar Sink (1942-1995) war ein Komponist voller Spontaneität, der auf einen Schlag viel schreiben und dann auf Jahre verstummen konnte. Das unveränderliche Kennzeichen seiner Werke überwiegend Kammermusik ist die feine und fantasievolle Behandlung von Klangfarben. Im Jahre 1960 war er neben Arvo Pärt der herausragendste Modernist der estnischen Musik. In den 70er Jahren interessierte er sich für zentralasiatische Volksmusik. Das Zeitgefühl der orientalischen Musik beeinflußte sein weiteres Schaffen, dessen Höhepunkt der "zeitlose" meditierende Liederzyklus Geburts und Todeslieder (Text von F. Garcia Lorca, 1985-87) bildet. In den 90er Jahren schrieb Kuldar Sink hauptsächlich Chorwerke mit liturgischen Texten.
Kuldar Sink (1942-1995) fut un compositeur doué d'une créativité très spontanée: il pouvait écrire un grand nombre d'oeuvres d'affilée et ne plus rien composer des années durant. Le trait marquant et immuable de ses oeuvres essentiellement de la musique de chambre réside dans le traitement raffiné et inventif des timbres. En 1960, il fut, avec Arvo Pärt, la figure de proue de la musique moderne estonienne. Au cours des années 70, il s'intéressa à la musique des peuples d'Asie centrale. La durée propre à la musique orientale marqua dorénavant ses compositions dominées par le cycle «intemporel» médidatif des Geburts und Todeslieder (Chants de la Naissance et de la Mort), composés entre 1985 et 1987 sur des poèmes de Federico Garcia Lorca). Dans les années 90, Kuldar Sink composa surtout des oeuvres pour choeur sur des textes liturgiques.
